  • Provide a Dataset and Challenge Project for the student teams to work on for the week.

  • Volunteer at any of the events working closely with the IC22 team to provide the best experience for Students and Partners.
  • Host an Event Table during the Showcase Event

Provide a Dataset or Challenge Project

All partners are invited to submit a dataset or challenge project for the student participants to analyze.

  • Datasets or challenge projects can be from any discipline.
  • Once you have submitted the form to indicate that you would like to provide a dataset or challenge project, an IC22 team member will send you details letting you know the best way to frame the project for IC22. The team member will work through the development process with you to finalize the project needs that will allow the IC22 students to highlight their talents and produce a creative outcome for your organization!
  • Each organization supplying a dataset or challenge project will need to have someone from your organization that has in depth knowledge of the data or project available to students on February 26, 2022 from 11am – 3pm.
  • The expert will need to give a Challenge Orientation Talk to review the dataset and problem statements for the student participants at on February 26 at 11am.

Dataset should include:

  • A short statement about why the dataset has been submitted
    OR
  • A problem statement to guide exploration by the participants
    Note: View previous datasets and final projects here
  • Datasets must be complete and cleaned so the student participants do not need to take the time to complete these actions.

Cybersecurity and Design Challenge Projects should include:

  • The project details and goals
  • A short statement about why the project has been submitted
  • All relevant Information and resources student teams will need to develop a complete project

Datasets must be submitted to the UMD Info Challenge Organizing Team by November 30, 2021


Mentors

All partners, UMD researchers, or data enthusiasts, regardless of discipline, may be mentors for student teams

No teaching, mentor, or data analysis experience necessary.

  • Mentors guide student teams as they work through exploring the dataset or challenge project, selecting a research question or understanding the organization’s problem statement.
  • Mentors spend Kick-off Day (at UMD or virtually) working with their assigned student teams, and supporting the teams virtually for the remainder of the week.
  • No limit to the number of mentors from an organization.

Mentors will be invited to attend the virtual Mentor and Judge Information Session on February 11, 2022.

  • This 3-hour workshop, hosted by the UMD Info Challenge Team and industry specialists, will provide mentors with expectations, tips and ideas for managing a team during IC22, and an opportunity to network with other data enthusiasts.

Judges

All partners may be a judge. Judges will evaluate the student teams’ final products during the Showcase and Judging Day on March 5, 2022 | 3-6pm.

  • Judges must have data analysis, cybersecurity or design experience.
  • Judges will participate as part of a judging panel. They will be provided with a scoring rubric, which will include the project categories and the criteria for evaluation, and a scorecard for notes for each team.
  • Judging criteria, procedures and schedules will be emailed to judges a week before the Challenge Kick-off.
  • A copy of each team’s abstract will be provided to the judges by 12pm the day prior to the Showcase and Judging Day.

Judges will be invited to attend the virtual Mentor and Judge Information Session on February 11, 2022 from 3-6pm.

Volunteer for the Kick-off Event
February 26, 2022 from 11am-3pm

Volunteers will assist with:

  • Checking-in participants and mentors
  • Assist student teams connecting to mentors and dataset providers
  • Answer questions about the event and the upcoming week

Volunteers must attend the Volunteer Information Session
Feb 8, 2022 from 5-6pm.

Volunteer for the Judging Sessions
March 5, 2022 from 10am – 2pm

Volunteers will assist with:

  • Checking-in participants and judges
  • Assisting student teams with connecting to judges at the designated times
  • Verify the presentations do not go over the allotted time, and answer questions about the event and the awards ceremony

Volunteers must attend the Volunteer Information Session
Feb 8, 2022 from 5-6pm.

Host an Event Table during the Showcase Event

Your organization can have an event table during the Showcase Event on March 5 from 1-2pm. Family and friends of the participants, plus data enthusiasts, will be present to view the student teams’ final products.

To host an event table, you must be either a Yottabyte or Exabyte Sponsor.

Provide Organizational Swag or Literature

Organizational swag will be available for the participants to pick up during the Kick-off Event.

Organizational literature will be placed in an online folder for the participants to access during the Kick-off Event. You can submit your online literature to be part of the folder.
